NSB owns 55 per cent of CargoNet AS, a freight company in which Swedish GreenCargo AB is the other shareholder. NSB BA was converted into a private limited company (AS) on 1 July 2002. It was originally established by special legislation on 1 December 1996, when the administrative body - the Norwegian National Rail Administration (Jernbaneverket) - was spun off from the former NSB. NSB AS is owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications.
