The efficient public transport network in Finland ensures all citizens a possibility of easy, fast and inexpensive travelling. The train has its own substantial functions within the national public transport system where the different forms of transport complement each other.

Double-decker InterCity trains provide services for frequent travellers, families travelling with children, and persons with wheelchairs. InterCity trains offer fast connections for all passengers as well as quality services from city centre to city centre. Comfortable and fast Pendolino trains (max. speed 220 km/h) run between Helsinki-Turku, Helsinki-Jyväskylä-Kuopio, Helsinki-Tampere-Seinäjoki-Oulu and since autumn 2005, also Helsinki-Joensuu. Both InterCity and Pendolino trains have air conditioning, a mobile phone amplifier, a special compartment for allergy sufferers, a smokers' booth - except the double-decker InterCity coaches, which are smokeless -, and a restaurant car or MiniBistro trolley sales.
